A children's reading app doesn't need to know who your child is. Here's how we built Storyloka to keep everything on your device.
When we started building Storyloka, we asked a simple question: what does a family reading app actually need to know about a child?
The honest answer was: nothing. So that’s what it collects.
What “nothing” means
- No accounts. Open the app and read. No email, no password, no profile.
- No analytics. We don’t track what your child reads, for how long, or where they tap.
- No ads. No ad networks, no sponsored stories, no “unlock more” nudges.
- No cloud. Nothing your family does in the app is sent to us.
So how does it remember things?
Favourites, bookmarks, reading progress, completed lessons, lights found and private notes are all saved on your device. They’re there when you come back, and if you delete the app, they’re gone. We can’t see them, because they never reach us.
Why offline matters
Because every story, painting and lesson is bundled in the app, Storyloka works on planes, in the car and at grandma’s house, with no signal and no buffering. It also means there’s nothing to stream, so there’s no reason for the app to phone home.
What about this website?
The website follows the same idea. There are no cookies and no tracking scripts. A few small things, like the hidden lights you’ve found or your picture-hunt streak, are remembered in your own browser and never sent to us. If you join the waitlist, we keep that email address only to tell you when Storyloka opens. The details are in our privacy policy and cookies page.
Calm by design
Privacy and calm go together. An app that doesn’t watch your child also has no reason to push them: no autoplay, no streak pressure, no notifications pulling them back. Stories end. Then it’s time for bed.
We’d rather your child remember the story than the app.
Questions?
If you have questions about how Storyloka handles information, we’re happy to answer them. See our children’s privacy notice or get in touch.
